A successful trip the NordSIMS

In May 2026, MSc student Julia Geerinck went to the NordSIMS in Stockholm, Sweden, to collect data for her thesis project. Julia is reconstructing part of the tectonic history of the Appalachians using garnet schists from Roxbury, Connecticut. She leveraged the SIMS to determine the ages of detrital zircon grains included inside of Appalachian-era garnet porphyroblasts, to determine the protolith provenance, and to place new constraints on the timing of Appalachian metamorphism.

Julia defended her master's thesis in June (congrats, Julia!!!!), so stay tuned - she will soon submit a manuscript for peer review!
