PhD Candidate Kyra Darányi attended the Ice Core Analyzing Techniques (ICAT) summer school in Copenhagen (DK) this September. It consisted of 15 talks covering the broad range of ice core science, from the history of ice core drilling, over chemical analyses used for ice core dating and paleoclimatology to the broader picture of how ice sheets form, deform, and how ice core analysis are crucial for constraining ice flow modelling. The talks were accompanied by practicals and lab tours. One of the highlights was visiting the world’s largest ice core storage facility. Besides the many informative activities it was a great opportunity meeting other PhD candidates and early career scientists at a similar stage working on cryospheric and ice core related topics. It has been 5 intense but very inspiring days in the beautiful capital of Pølse and Smørrebrød.
